Riffelsee, Zermatt - Once again, for those who love a small adventure - this is the place to go. The Riffelsee is a small alpine lake packed with wild fish. Brown trout, Arctic char and perch are found here in large quantities. The lake is accessed via a 1hr bus journey from Zermatt to the Rotenboden bus stop ( car access is also possible up until the same bus stop ) . From there, 45mins of easy trekking and you reach the actual fishing site. The lake is well-known for its amazing view over the famous Matterhorn and fishing here is superb if the weather is nice. The traditional lake fishing equipment/set-up can be used here, with a preference for orange-coloured lures if opting for the Arctic Char. Fishing permits are required, and can be accessed from the tourist office in Zermatt, although these are rarely verified at the site. Fishing is not possible from November till end of march due to ice cover on the lake.
