Canton of the Berner Oberland
Lauenensee - This remote mountain lake accessible by car is a fly fishing paradise. The mountain lake, although not stocked, seems to contain a wide variety of fish species - from pike and perch to trout and carp. The nice restaurant of the Lauenensee offers a small row boat for rent which is preferable to be able to fully exploit the waters of both sections of the lake.
Arnensee - Similar to the previously mentioned Lauenensee, this mountain lake is remote and not easy to access. Located in the Gstaad region, a 2 hour trek from the small village of Feutersoey will get you to the lake. The lower part of the lake is dammed, so water is guaranteed all year round. The fishery of Feutersoey stocks the lake with Arctic Char, making the lake one of the few places in Switzerland where this fish is available. Fishing permits can be acquired from the Arnen Restaurant, found on the banks of this wonderful lake, for 15.- CHF. From November till mid April the lake is iced up and is suitable for ice-fishing. Apart from the large quantities of Arctic char, brown trout and perch can also be found here, albeit in smaller numbers.
